The BuildERS Project: The Role of CSID Researchers in The Global Collaboration of Studies on Enhancing Disaster Resilience in Europe

Disaster resilience has become an important issue in recent years, with a number of disasters occurring that can have a large impact. This builds the enthusiasm of the world’s researchers to focus on dealing with this disaster issue by making initiatives in the form of collaborative research studies related to urban disaster resilience with Europe as an object of case study research. This project is called the Building European Communities’ Resilience and Social Capital Project or known as the BuildERS Project. This project focuses on institutional preparedness and risk management, risk perceptions and trust networks of individuals, and risk perceptions and trust networks of individuals to realize Social Capital that has resilience to disasters.
One CSID researcher Mohammed Ali Berawi who also served as executive director of CSID became an important part of the Builders project by playing the role of research leader from Indonesia. According to him, increasing the city’s resilience to disasters can be done by building information technology systems through data from mobile phones. Therefore, in this project information technology and social media systems will be developed specifically designed for disaster management in order to improve the effectiveness and speed of response to disasters so as to increase the resilience of the community to disasters.
