As reported by Antara.com, the Director of CSID, Mohammed Ali Berawi, assessed that digital infrastructure can increase worker productivity, as well as increase the provision of services and services to be more responsive and efficient.

Ali explained that digital infrastructure development is the development of information technology-based infrastructure to support various activities and the digital economy.

The infrastructure consists of physical (hardware) and non-physical (software) infrastructure. On the physical side, this includes building internet networks in rural areas, increasing the capacity of internet bandwidth and urban wifi networks (4G and 5G), strengthening telecommunications and satellite networks, including communication systems for submarine cables, optical cables and BTS towers, to provision of computers and cellphones. Meanwhile, non-physical infrastructure includes the development of data centers, cloud computing, and various applications.

Furthermore, Ali explained that this digital infrastructure is also used to modernize and maximize benefits for existing infrastructure, by connecting various objects with information technology or the internet. Apart from digital infrastructure, according to him, infrastructure development priorities for next year are also for the development of industrial and tourism area infrastructure, transportation and logistics, as well as basic needs for water supply, sanitation, housing and education.

The Indonesian government will spend a budget for infrastructure development in 2021 of around IDR 414 trillion, primarily for economic recovery, provision of basic services, and increased connectivity. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government assesses the availability and functioning of digital infrastructure to be very important and strategic. Thus, infrastructure spending is directed towards strengthening digital infrastructure and encouraging logistical efficiency and connectivity; labor-intensive infrastructure that supports industrial and tourism areas; as well as the construction of public health facilities and the provision of basic necessities, such as water, sanitation and housing.
